Discover Alpacas

Heritage Farm Suri Alpacas would like to invite you to learn more about alpacas and the alpaca lifestyle by offering you our free "Getting Started" guide.  The owners of Heritage Farm, Tim and Beth Sheets, both have full-time professional careers at Lilly but truly love the geeting started cover.pnglifestyle and family time together that caring for our alpacas provide.  Our reasons we started this venture are 4-fold:

  • Being less than 10 yrs. from retirement from Lilly, we wanted to start our own business to enjoy.
  • We live on several acres of rural property and wanted to "raise" something.
  • We wanted to pursue livestock that had a definite profit potential.
  • We fell in love with alpacas!
We feel that others who work at Lilly may have similar interests. That is why we want to provide this opportunity for you to explore the exciting prospects of alpaca ownership.  Our goal is to educate you about alpacas and the alpaca lifestyle and help you determine if alpaca ownership is right for you!
This 50 page guide is offered free of charge to Lilly employees and retirees.

Our Getting Started Guide will help you:

      • Understand and define your objectives for owning alpacas
      • Learn the basics of alpaca fiber structure
      • Discover how fiber qualities are measured
      • Plan your farm infrastructure (shelter, pasture, etc.)
      • Uncover capital equipment considerations
      • Understand alpaca health and nutrition
      • Prepare for breeding and birthing
      • Unpack the basics of genetics
      • Create a checklist for an action plan

Starting an alpaca farm is a big decision.  We want you to be well equiped to fully understand what the alpaca business is all about before you buy your first alpaca.  Combined with talking to alpaca owners, going to educational seminars and getting your hands on several alpacas, will help you determine if alpaca ownership is right for you. and provide you with some basics for getting started.  For additional about alpacas and our farm, sign up for our newsletter and/or visit our Heritage Farm web site.
